Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry is all about repairing or replacing teeth in order to improve oral health and function. If you have any of the following issues, restorative dentistry may be right for you:

  • Cavities/tooth decay
  • Damaged or broken teeth
  • Missing teeth

Restorative dentistry offers a great opportunity for long-lasting oral health. By fixing damaged or decayed teeth, your dentist can restore your smile to full function. This, in turn, improves your ability to eat, speak and chew.

To put it simply, restorative dentistry is any dental process that repairs or restores damaged oral structures. However, it's important to note that restorative dentistry does not include cosmetic procedures like veneers or whitening services.

Here at Envisia, we do a lot of restore work - it's one of the most common services we provide. In fact, chances are good that everyone will need some kind of restorative procedure at some point in their lifetime. And while we believe in saving teeth whenever possible, sometimes replacement is necessary. That's why it's important to keep up with regularly scheduled appointments every six months. By monitoring dental health closely, we can often prevent the need for restorative work altogether - or, at the very least, detect problems early on so they can be corrected quickly and easily.

Depending on your unique oral needs, there are quite a few procedures that fall under the restorative dentistry including dental implants, inlays and outlays, fillings, crowns, bonding, and dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a type of dental restoration used to replace missing teeth. They are made up of three main parts: the implant, the abutment, and the dental crown.

The implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone.

Dental implants offer many benefits, including durability, comfort, improved appearance, and improved oral health.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are types of dental restorations used to repair damaged or decayed teeth. They are made from composite resin, porcelain, or gold and are custom-made to fit into the prepared cavity in the tooth.

Inlays are used when damage is contained within the cusps of the tooth while onlays are used when the damage extends beyond the cusps of the tooth.

Fillings

Dental fillings are restorative materials used to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma.

Fillings can also be used to repair teeth that have been worn down by grinding or clenching.

The filling material is placed into the prepared cavity and shaped to restore the tooth's shape, function, and esthetics.

Crowns

Dental crowns are a type of dental restoration that is used to restore a damaged or decayed tooth to its normal size, shape, and function.

A dental crown is essentially a cap that covers the entire visible portion of the tooth and is custom-made to match the color and shape of the patient's natural teeth.

Bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied to the teeth and hardened with a special light. This process "bonds" the material to the tooth and can improve the appearance of the tooth by changing its shape, size, or color.

It is less expensive than veneers or crowns and can be completed in just one visit.

Bridges

Dental bridges are a type of dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth.

Bridges consist of two or more dental crowns that are attached to the remaining teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth.

Dental bridges help restore the look and function of a patient's smile and prevent other teeth from shifting out of place.

Dentures (Full/Partial)

Dentures are removable dental appliances that are used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They are made from acrylic resin.

There are two types of dentures: complete dentures, which replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw, and partial dentures, which replace only a few missing teeth and are attached to the remaining natural teeth.
